STAKEHOLDER SURVEY:  The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is partnering with Support Development Associates (SDA) to develop training on person-centered thinking and practices. Knowledge of the principles of person-centered practices and the ability to apply such principles is important for the successful implementation of the Self-Determination Program and meeting the HCBS settings requirments outlined in the January 2014 federal regulations. SDA is compiling information from California stakeholders to inform our understanding of the current state person-centered practices in California. This information will be used to develop and facilitate trainings throughout the state in the coming months.

All service providers, individuals receiving services and those who support them are encouraged to complete the Stakeholder Survey by FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2020. The survey will take approximately 3 - 5 minutes and your input is greatly appreciated.  Please click the following link for full details and links to complete the survey:

Announcement of Retirement:

Dr. Rick Blumberg has communicated his intent to retire from the position of Executive Director of the Redwood Coast Regional Center in the Spring of 2020.  Dr. Blumberg has served the RCRC community for the past five years, as Behavioral Psychologist/Autism Clinical Specialist, and as Executive Director. He has committed over 40 years of his professional life to the service of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.  During his career, Dr. Blumberg has served in many roles including, service provider, regional center service coordinator/supervisor, clinician, university professor and researcher.

"It has been my honor to serve as Executive Director of the Redwood Coast Regional Center. I am very excited by the many programs and initiatives we are undertaking as a community. I am very grateful for the support of our Board of Directors, the person centered work of our talented and committed staff and service provider community. I believe RCRC is well positioned to support our shared vision of inclusion, equity, diversity and self determination for the people we serve."

Steven Perez, President of the RCDSC Board of Directors, has appointed a Selection Committee to begin the search for a new Executive Director. The Committee will soon release a recruitment announcement and position description.

El Dr. Blumberg ha comunicado su intención de retirarse del cargo de Director Ejecutivo del Centro Regional de Redwood Coast en la primavera del 2020. El Dr. Blumberg ha servido a la comunidad de RCRC durante los últimos cinco años, como Psicólogo conductual/Especialista clinico en autismo, y como Director Ejecutivo. Ha dedicado más de 40 años de su vida profesional al servicio de las personas con discapacidades del desarrollo y sus familias. Durante su carrera, el Dr. Blumberg ha desempeñado muchos roles, incluyendo proveedor de servicios, coordinador/supervisor de servicios del centro regional, clinico, profesor universitario e investigador.

"Ha sido un hono para mí servir como Director Ejecutivo del Centro Regioinal de Redwood Coast. Estoy muy entusiasmado con los muchos programas e iniciativas que estamos emprendiendo como comunidad. 2020 David A. Isom Excellence in Service Award:  Nominations are now being accepted through March 15, 2020 by the State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) North Coast office for the David A. Isom Excellence in Service Award. This award is presented to individuals who provide exceptional services to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake and Mendocino counties.  Nominations are made by Redwood Coast Regional Center clients and families. The SCDD is working in collaboration with the Redwood Coast Developmental Services Corporation (RCDSC) Board of Directors who will reach out to parent groups and self advocacy groups to help select the recipients of this award from the nominations received.  Please click here if you would like to download the nomination form.

2020 David A. **Home & Community Based Services Settings Final Rule Webinar**

This webinar is the first in a series of trainings and will describe the HCBS Final Rule, who it applies to, and why it exists. We will establish a common understanding of terms, discuss the review process for settings in California, and reinforce the important role stakeholder input plays.

Effective January 1, 2018, Welfare and Institutions Code section 4686.5 is repealed and the limits on the purchase of respite services will no longer apply. Redwood Coast Regional Center will continue to work with clients and families to identify individual needs based on the person centered planning process and individual needs assessment process.
